LASIK Eye Surgery

January 17th, 2008

My wife has been wearing glasses for 20 plus years, she doesn’t wear them full-time only when she’s reading or driving at night. For the past year she has been considering lasik eye surgery, but she is has had some fears about having the procedure done. So I have been doing some research on the subject hoping to make her feel more at ease.

What I have learned has put our concerns at ease, first of all I learned that there hasn’t been a single case of someone going blind from the surgery and I think that’s pretty amazing. I don’t think there’s any other surgery that can boast that kind of record. Next the doctor put some eyedrops in your eyes to numb any pain and to blackout any vision, that way you won’t have any anxiety with seeing the tools the doctor works on your eyes with. Finally the procedure only takes about 10 seconds per eye, you could say it will all be over in the wink of an eye. :)

A Dream Trip to the UK

December 27th, 2007
We are planing a trip to the UK and have picked the three main stops we want to make, London, Glasgow and Edinburgh. We are planing to drive it so we can see as much of the county as possible. Our first stop will be London, so the main sites on our list are, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, The Tower of London and the London Eye. I figure while in London we can stay in London Hotels that are close enough to everything that we’ll just take cabs. London
Glasgow Next we’ll take a train to Glasgow and rent a car to see the Glasgow Cathedral, The Mackintosh House, Kelburn Castle, Brodick Castle and the New Lanark World Heritage Village. Again there are a few local Glasgow Hotels near to everything.
Then it’s off to Edinburgh which is close enough to Glasgow to drive and enjoy the country. There we’ll make our first stop at the historic Edinburgh Castle where we’ll see the Scottish Crown Jewels. We also want to see Lauriston Castle, Palace of Holyroodhouse, St. Giles’ Cathedral, St. Mary’s Cathedral. Luckily both Cathedrals are next to a few top Edinburgh Hotels and then we’ll top it off with a visit to the Royal Yacht Britannia. Well that’s our trip, if you think I missed any good sites please let me know. Edinburgh

Baby Shower

December 27th, 2007

Well I’ve got some great news to post, my daughter is about to have a son! This is so exciting for us, I just don’t know where to begin. He’s due the first week of April and his name will be Logan, There’s so much to plan for like the baby shower and the christening.

We plan on on making it a big event so I’ve been looking for baby shower favors and can’t decide on the ones in the link or these crystal baby favors I hope you guys will write in your thoughts. Then I’ll need some christening favors but I’ll have more time to pick them out, but I would like some feedback on the choices. I can’t wait till he’s born, I’m going to have such a blast spoiling him. I’ll post pictures of Logan when his born.

Ukop - Backup to a USB stick

December 27th, 2007

I found this to be just what I needed to keep my personal files in sync between my laptop and desktop. It has an easy GUI and saves my files uncompressed, which I find good because my USB thumb drive is formated as "Fat32", all the folders and files are readable by windows and linux. It wasn’t in Synaptic for installing but it was easy to install using the info from the download page.

I save all my documents, pictures & personal folders in my home folder, plus my email filters from Evolution, & my Tomboy notes & Glipper snippets. I don’t want to backup everything on my hard drive because some of the config files are only for ether my desktop computer or my laptop, but you could backup everything if your USB thumb drive is large enough.(Introduction from site) - Ukop is a free Linux program used to copy or back-up disk files to a USB stick or other disk-like media. It copies only new or modified files since the last backup, and is therefore quite fast. A GUI is used to navigate the file system to include or exclude files or directories at any level. Choices can be saved in a job file for later re-use. New or deleted files are normally handled automatically, without re-editing the job file. Files can be selectively restored using a GUI. Ownership and permissions are also restored, even if the USB stick uses a Microsoft file system.

To download and install ukop, visit the download page .
